Types of Services:

At the Dorfman Chapel we are dedicated to providing a wide range of services for the Jewish Community. Regardless of your religious affiliation, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform or Humanistic, we are able to fulfill your requests. In addition, we offer a broad selection of caskets, vaults and monuments in all price ranges. The different services are as follows:

Traditional Chapel Services:
Our main chapel, when fully expanded seats approximately 550 people, and opens to our foyer for much larger services. Its beauty and tranquility are unsurpassed. A separate family room is available for the family to greet visitors before the funeral. Off the family room is a courtyard, fully landscaped with flowers, brick pavers and benches for individuals who wish to step outside. Retractable walls convert our chapel to a smaller, more intimate size. The family is still able to utilize the family room and courtyard with this option.

Graveside Services:
Prior to building The Dorfman Chapel, we founded the Alan H. Dorfman Funeral Direction back in 1991, which primarily did graveside services. The graveside service is conducted directly at the burial site. We provide a speaker system for the Rabbi who conducts the service and a canopy is generally provided for the immediate family. The graveside service is a sensible alternative for small services, though weather can sometimes be an issue.

Cemetery Chapel Services:
Several of Metro-Detroit's Jewish Cemeteries have opened small chapels on their grounds. These chapels offer an alternative to families who would prefer a graveside service but are concerned about weather conditions and seating availability.

Temple or Synagogue Services:
Some families prefer to have the funeral at a Temple or Synagogue. This is an option for some families and not for others as many local Temples and Synagogues will not allow a funeral service to take place inside their sanctuary. Please call us directly if you would like specific information on your Temple or Synagogue.

Memorial Services:
In certain cases, family members pass away out of state and are interred in another city. In these situations, local families want some type of memorial service for their own family and friends. Our Chapel can be utilized in these situations.

Out-of-State Arrangements:
If death occurs out of the state of Michigan, and burial will take place in Michigan, please call us directly. We work with Funeral Homes in every state. In addition, many of these Funeral Homes provide us with special professional pricing which can save a family hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. Our toll free number is 866-406-6003.

Aftercare Services:
Following the funeral many details need attention. These details include: donating clothes and furniture to charities, notifying social security, obtaining veterans benefits, finding local support groups or counseling centers, and ordering a proper gravemarker at the cemetery. Our service to your family does not stop after the funeral; we are committed to any assistance we can provide.
