Harvey was born in upstate New York and moved to Detroit as a toddler, where he grew to become a proud Detroiter, always supporting the DIA, the Symphony, and the Jewish community. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he served in the Korean War. It was there that he met Byron Canvasser and made a shidduch for his sister, Maxine. Professionally, Harvey ran an industrial ink and marking company, which remains in the care of the next generation. However, his greatest efforts were always focused on his family. Together with Clara, they hosted summer vacations up north and organized trips to honor milestones, creating priceless memories for their children and grandchildren.
Harvey is survived by his four children — Brenda (Mark Herrmann), Steven (Anne Williams), David (Stacy), and Sara (Larry Kaskel). He was affectionately known as "Papa" to nine grandchildren — Jessica, Jeremy, Zoe, Hannah, Nora, Samantha, Jacob, Lucy, and Albert — and "Very Old Papa" to eight great-grandchildren — Aiden, Cole, Elizabeth, Evie, Penelope, Violet, William, and Wren.
Harvey will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and devotion – a true mensch, whose spirit lives on in the family he loved.
