Peter James a resident of Wixom, MI died on January 16, 2026, at the age of 68. Funeral service will be private, though a memorial will be held at a later date.

Born on Feb 23, 1957 in Stratford Ontario, CA. Peter was the son of the late Bert & Donna James. Peter lived in the Detroit area after moving here with his parents in the 1970’s from Pittsburgh. Peter attended and graduated from Southfield High School. Then he and his parents returned to Windsor, Ontario.

Peter moved back to the Detroit area where he worked in various jobs in the family harness racing industry, linen business, health care and later in life selling cars until his health declined.

Peter is survived by his loving children Andrew (Kaley) James, Benson and Spencer James. Papa Pete to Elliot & Owen James. Devoted brother to David James, Mary Anderson, Judy Withington, Jeff James and to the late Bert James Jr. Special uncle & great uncle to many family members across Canada & the United States. Survived by many loyal friends, his long time companion Beverly Van Dyke and former wife & mother of his children Barbara James.

Peter was the happiest watching sports with his sons and his love of horse racing. And seeing his grandsons playing & enjoying their toys that he brought during his visits. He enjoyed time spent with his family during holiday dinners, when family would come in from out of town and visit. And especially enjoyed time spent out dining at his favorite restaurants.

He will be missed by everyone he touched and we will carry his memory in our hearts.
