Seth’s life is an inspiring story of an individual with Down Syndrome who grew up doing everything that “the other kids and young adults did,” while also receiving a tailored education to meet his special needs. High expectations led to high-performing results.
Seth attended the Beekman Center in Lansing, the MSU Lab School in East Lansing, and Ferndale Public Schools, where he was part of the Special Education program. He moved into his first group home at age 18 and lived at the Code Road Home (CLC) for 30+ years until his death. His talented and loving manager, Sandra Johnson, and her family became our family, and together with her supervised staff, were responsible for Seth's quality of life. We are also grateful for the love and companionship of his uncle Charles, who lived in the same home and was always Seth’s advocate.
As an adult, Seth worked on a cleaning crew at the Marriott hotel in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and later at an automotive-related assembly line at the New Horizons Sheltered Workshop in Madison Heights and Novi, Michigan. He took great pride in earning and spending his paycheck, often at the dollar store.
A dedicated Spécial Olympic participant, Seth competed in track and swimming. He also learned to play tennis, badminton, basketball, and ski. He was enthusiastic about various hobbies, including his favorite radio station, 95.5, dancing, watching Sesame Street, playing cards, bowling, the movies, and eating out with a Diet Coke. Seth deeply loved animals and enjoyed spending time with them at his dad’s farm in Chelsea, Michigan.
Seth was a member of Temple Emanuel in Oak Park and The Chabad Shul in West Bloomfield, Michigan. His spirituality was integral to his family life, highlighted by his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Emanuel and his participation in a weekly Shabbat at his group home.
He leaves behind a loving family, who were fully engaged in his life through visits, travels, and family events, a testament to his deep capacity for love.
Seth leaves behind his mother, Harriet Cooper (Richard OMB); father, William Rosenberg (Pam); Uncle Charles Kuschner; brother, Loren Rosenberg (Victoria); sister, Gabrielle Starr (Todd); and stepbrother, Eric Cooper (Sue). Seth also leaves behind nieces Lucie and Ava Rosenberg, Zoe and Jordyn Starr, Sarah Cooper, Meghan Bagwell, and Gillian Cooper; Revered, dedicated, and deeply loved home manager, Sandra Johnson (Jason); their daughters, Leah and Lexi; son Sean Goolsby (Hana);
Seth was preceded in death by his stepsister, Kelly Cooper; his stepdad, Richard Cooper; Johnson family friend, son Anthony Goolsby (Ashlyn); and his grandparents, Isaac and Edith Kuschner, Lucy and Leo Rosenberg, and Jean and Frank Cooper.
Seth has always been a bright light for others, inspiring hope and possibilities in those who need it. His legacy of love, laughter, strength, living in the moment, overcoming challenges, and comforting others will be profoundly missed and forever cherished by all who know him.
