Family Members:
Bob Lipson passed away peacefully on 11/28/2024. He was just shy of his 100th birthday. He was born in Detroit, MI in 1925 to Estelle and Bernard Lipson. His parents divorced when Bob was 12. That summer, he rode a train across the country alone to Los Angeles to spend the summer with his father. Estelle married David Schiller + in about 1941 and Bob and Estelle were welcomed into the Schiller/Berris family. After Bernie remarried, Bob gained a half-brother, Leslie Lipson, when he was 15 and a half-sister, Gail Gadon when he was 18.

After graduating from Detroit’s Central High, he attended Wayne State University for one semester and then enlisted in the Army at age 18. He was trained as a radar technician/meteorologist at the University of Chicago for a year, followed by 6 months of training in radio communications in Ontario, Canada. He continued in that program for 3 months at Harvard in Cambridge, MA.

After the war, he attended the University of Michigan and earned a degree in chemical engineering. There, he met Marilyn Glasier and they were married in 1951. They lived in Battle Creek Michigan for five years, where eldest son Michael and daughter Debra were born. They moved back to Detroit and had two more children, Daniel and Hildie. Bob valued responsibility, family, and education with which he and Marilyn raised their children.

Bob worked as a sales engineer for many years. In the mid-60’s the family moved to West Bloomfield, MI. Bob and Marilyn divorced in 1977. In 1979, he married Shirley Grant, gaining two step-daughters, Karen Zilber (Gary) and Lauren Hamill (Billy). He continued his lifelong passion for tennis into his mid-eighties, took up bridge, and enjoyed dinner and movie nights with friends. In October 2018 he was invited by the Michigan nonprofit “Talons Out Honor Flight” on a trip to Washington D.C. for veterans to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who served our country. He was one of the oldest veterans on that trip.

He is survived by four children: Michael Lipson (Judy), Debra Lipson (Alfredo Suescum), Daniel Lipson (Jancy Jerome), and Hildie Lipson (Dwain Young); six grandchildren: Jennifer Lipson (Robyn Stern), Bryan Lipson (Sloane), Sarah Franzel (Richard Eisloeffel), Isa Suescum (Travis Ross), Emily Lipson (Max Milkman), and Linnea Lipson; and two great-grandchildren: Henry Lipson and Avi Graham.
