Family Members:
Janet (Sosin) Guggenheim – January 4, 1937 to June 20, 2024. Janet was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived on 12th Street above her dad’s candy store with her parents and three older brothers for the first few years of her life. The store, Sosin’s Sodas, later moved to Dexter and the family moved to Collingwood. But Janet’s love for chocolate ice cream stayed with her for her whole life.

Janet was strong, brave, kind, and slightly stubborn, a quality which endeared her to many. She was also vocal in her praise of others and modest about her own accomplishments, which included being a lifelong English teacher who rose through the ranks to become a dean of Davenport University. She collected Eskimo Art, started jogging when she was 40, and continued her daily quest for 10,000 steps well into her middle 80s. Her golf swing was “distinctive” and on sunny days, when she wasn’t walking or golfing, she could be found gardening in Huntington Woods, her home for 50 years with her husband Bernie.

Janet had many friends, including a close group for nearly 80 years. She was also fiercely devoted to Bernie, her husband, and he remained the love of her life and best friend. Together, they traveled the world. Janet loved her children and was a rock of support for them. She adored her grandchildren and they adored her right back.

Janet is survived by her children Amy and Steve, their spouses, Ed (Shenkan) and Joanie (Cavanaugh), her grandchildren, MadelineShenkan, Jeremy, Aaron, and JacobGuggenheim (Yi Feng), KristinaCottle Feldman (Daniel Feldman),Peter Cottle and great-grandchildrenHenry and Amelia Feldman. We miss her.
