Family Members:
On September 22nd, 2022, Eva Packard, beloved aunt, wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Novi, Michigan. Born April 5th, 1938, in Budapest, Hungary, to Eugene and Elizabeth Kuhn, at an early age Eva immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Detroit, Michigan. She and her brother grew up in a family that greatly valued the opportunities afforded by democracy in the United States and the value of a quality public education. Eva attended Fairbanks Elementary and Cooley High in the Detroit Public School system.

From an early age, Eva gravitated to math, earning a scholarship to Wayne State University. In her junior year, Eva enrolled in the first computer course offered in the WSU Math department and did so well that she was asked by her professor to help teach the first computer lab. Upon graduation in 1959, Eva entered a career in computers with General Motors Research in Warren, Michigan. Eva was one of the early women to become a manager in her field and, later in her career, transferred to a role of greater responsibility at Electronic Data Systems. For her career and volunteer accomplishments, in 2002 Eva received the Headliner Award, given to distinguished Wayne State graduates by the Women of Wayne Alumni Association.

Eva also enjoyed giving back, particularly to creating a better Democracy. She spent over 58 years volunteering at the League of Women Voters and earned the League’s prestigious Belle Brotherton award. She also supported numerous causes, particularly around voting and education, including active support to the Detroit Public School Foundation despite having no children of her own.

Eva was married to Robert Saul Packard. She is survived by her twin brother, John Kuhn, and numerous nephews and nieces. Eva and Bob were active participants in the lives of their siblings, nephews, and nieces. They also greatly enjoyed traveling to see the world and family members.
