- HERZOG – Trudy R. (Nee Schachner) of Farmington Hills, formerly of Bayside, NY, entered eternal rest on September 21, 2020 surrounded by her family. Beloved daughter of Jechiel and Jenny Schachner of blessed memory. Devoted sister to Charles (Roberta of blessed memory). Adored wife of 56 years to Baron (Barry). Loving mother to Lisa (Howard) and David (Judith). Much-loved Meema of Hayley and Jacob. Cherished aunt and great aunt of Jessica (Jacek) and Jackson. Affectionately known as Mama T to many neighborhood friends and former students. Born in Austria on September 23rd, 1945 Trudy was 4 years old when she immigrated to America, after the Holocaust. Trudy's love affair with food and cooking was ingrained early on. In Poland, her father's family were butchers, her mother's family bakers. Trudy followed her passion first working at Gourmet magazine, then rose through the ranks in Food Services for the NYC Board of Education, serving for 35 years before she retired. Throughout her life, food was her love connection to her family, friends, and students. We will miss her vibrant personality, sharp wit, her fierce protection, and wild sense of humor. There is one less slice of bologna in the sandwich of life without her.
