Family Members:

Beloved wife of the late Harold R. Merritt. Dear mother of Howard (Anita) Merritt, Steven Merritt, Stewart (Betsy Kirkpatrick) Merritt, Susan Merritt and Cathy (Daniel Harper) Merritt. Devoted sister of the late Louis Hirschman and the late Sherman Hirschman. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Charlotte was an avid gardener, raised and trained dogs, and in her younger years took cross-country camping trips with her husband, five kids and three dogs. For many years, she taught reading to troubled youth at Boys Republic in Farmington. In her eighties, she was sending emails, listening to NPR, and reading a book a day, favoring murder mysteries. Walking up to six miles a day, she wore out three treadmills. Charlotte studied art at Cass Tech and Wayne State and made stained glass. She had strong opinions, but didn’t impose them on others. She readily embraced all kinds of people. Most of all, she believed strongly in education, in people’s potential, and giving back to others.
