- Family Members:
- Leo was born into a large family in Detroit. As a young man he enjoyed sports and socializing with many friends, especially Sheldon Lutz. Sheldon and Leo enlisted in the Army-Airforce together and both were stationed in Germany during WWII. After the war, Leo and his brother Alfred joined their father’s plumbing business which they operated and expanded to include many large scale commercial projects. He met and married Bernice in 1952, and together they raised two children, Susan and Danny. They enjoyed socializing with many friends and family including taking many trips and a long membership at Ramblewood swim club. Leo continued his involvement in sports including a life long membership at the Jewish Community Center. After Bernice’s passing Leo eventually met and married his second wife Doris, and had the good fortune to experience the pleasure of merging their two families together for over thirty years. In his later years Leo continued to make new friends and embraced new experiences, such as attending Detroit Symphony concerts with his children and grandchildren.
Leo was the beloved husband of the late Bernice Friedman and the late Doris Burstein-Friedman. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Hearshen (David) and the late son Daniel Friedman, step daughters Susan Kahn (Murray) and Audrey Burstein (Mark), stepson Gary Burstein (Jill), sister Lorraine Lerner (the late Leonard) and late siblings, the late Ann Lazaroff (the Late Morris), the late Francis Chaiken (the late Isadore), the late Mona Cohen (the late Louis), and the late Alfred Friedman (Francine).
