Elaine A. Stein, a resident of Huntington Woods, Michigan, died on June 20th, 2018 at the age of 75. Funeral services arranged by The Dorfman Chapel.

Family Members:

Beloved wife of Bert S. Stein. Dear mother of Jessica Anne (Kurt) Shlager and the late Joshua Michael Stein. Loving grandmother of Deborah B. Shlager and Daniel B. Shlager. Devoted sister of Wendy (David) Bodner, Caryn (Alex) Hart and Dr. Alan (Nancy) Askinas. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends

Elaine thoroughly enjoyed teaching chemistry at the University of Michigan, Dearborn for many years until she retired. She also had a passion and a remarkable talent for sewing and for making beautiful quilts. After retirement, she got together with sewing and quilting friends (the “Piece Makers”) on a regular basis. Her wonderful quilts adorned every bed in her home, hung on its walls, were donated to various charities, and were given to her children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. She was in the process of working on a new quilt for her grandson, Daniel, when her work was interrupted by illness. Another activity that Elaine loved after retirement was her extensive volunteer work helping seniors with their taxes as a member of the AARP tax aide group.
